# Instant upgrade

On the Lite or Basic plan and need more loads? Upgrade right away, pay only the difference (VAT included), and the new plan applies immediately.

If you want to reduce overage charges or need more loads, you can upgrade your plan **right now** instead of waiting for your next payment date. Pay only the difference, and the higher plan applies immediately.

{% hint style="info" %}
Downgrades still take effect on your next payment date, as before.
{% endhint %}

### How the charge is calculated

With an instant upgrade, you pay **the difference between the subscription fees of your current plan and the higher plan, plus VAT (10%)**. The fee is not prorated.

* Charge = (higher plan fee − current plan fee) × 1.1

For current plan fees, see the pricing page at <https://charlla.io>.

{% hint style="info" %}
Any fractional amount is rounded down.
{% endhint %}

If you go over the new plan's loads during the rest of that subscription period, the overage charge is still billed on your next regular payment date.

### How to upgrade

**Step 1.** Go to \[Profile menu at the top] > \[Payment] > \[Subscription Plan] > \[Choose Plan].

**Step 2.** On the pricing screen, select the plan you want to upgrade to. Choose **\[Upgrade Now]** rather than **\[Apply From Next Month]**.

<figure><img src="https://1857767629-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fo7CC5HKFh1guYnGcyftj%2Fuploads%2FojHZm0EOjW76kJZ3b82b%2Finstant-upgrade-2-en.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 3.** Check your payment method and complete the upgrade. Your registered card is used as the default payment method. If you change your card details here, the new card is also used for your recurring payments.

<figure><img src="https://1857767629-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fo7CC5HKFh1guYnGcyftj%2Fuploads%2F3yBnNplaGJZ00OYp3jJ3%2Finstant-upgrade-3-en.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

When your loads reach **80%** or **100%**, a pop-up about instant upgrade appears automatically the next time you open the console.

{% hint style="info" %}
Only the **main account admin** can do this.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://support.charlla.io/en/userguide/plan/instant-upgrade.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
